It is quite different from other games I like to play, but I like that you really have to work with your brain. I basically stuck to the Sims and MMORPGs with the occasional adventure, action or survival game in between. I played games like this when I was a kid (I remember playing Anno 1602 and die Siedler” (the settlers)) but haven’t gone back to the genre in a long time. A good game for the holidays when you do not have anything else planned. It really is highly addicting, so beware. It is harder than with most games to stop playing though (though the game reminds you of your playtime every few hours). This is basically the perfect game if you have nagging thoughts or anxiety that you want to forget for a while, your brain gets loaded with so many tiny tasks that there will be no room for another thought outside of the ANNO world.

It is really fantastic and challenging, but customizable too. My brother has totally hooked me on Anno 1800! Playing this game, you are basically glued to the screen. Well, I was a child without money, so that might have been the reason. So I moved on to Anno 1503 History Edition I did ignore the sequel back then after playing a demo, eventhough I liked it. It’s a little “wtf” moment in this game, atleast for me. What amuses me a bit is, that while the game is overall really giving you a wholesome island paradise vibe and is really relaxing, there are a ton of macabre little details, like the butcher having a pool of blood in front of his house, or that you can even place a damn gallow in your city with hanging corpse.

It also lacks a proper story, the best you get are some quickly read texts which atleast offer some context to what you’re doing. I did play roughly 8 or maybe even 10 missions of it and realised though, that while it’s still a nice and good game (especially if you have a weak PC!), it really lacks in depth and complexity after a while you have seen everything very quickly! makes it really a joy to play again in 2021.Īnd I have to say, it was already such a pretty game back in 1998 and the love for detail the developers back then had is still showing and still doing the game well.

I indulged a little into nostalgia and played “Anno 1602 History Edition” the update really did it well, the zoom, the stability, the ease of installation, etc.
